The American Red Cross
Learn-To-Swim Program!
We have modified our American Red Cross
Learn-To-Swim Program Lesson sessions to run in four, two-week sessions.
Classes will continue to be offered Monday thru Friday.
The American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim
Program offers a unique six-level instructional approach to swimming. This
swim program provides instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities
develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to give
students a positive learning experience.
Learn-To-Swim teaches aquatic and safety
skills in a logical progression. The objective is to teach people to swim
and to be safe in, on and around the water.
Pre-School Swim: Ages 3 to 4, Ages 4
to 5
This class provides a bridge into the American Red Cross Swimming Program.
The objective of this class is to help the child feel comfortable in the water
and work on skills that are age appropriate to their physical development.
Skills that will be introduced will be: water adjustment, breath control,
buoyancy, entering/exiting water, and front/back kicking with support. No
floatation device will be used. Lessons are a ratio of 6 children with 1
instructor and 1 aide and meets twice a week. Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday
and Thursday.

Child must be five years of age or older. The objective of this class is to
help the child feel comfortable in the water. Skills introduced will be: water

with support, and using arm strokes for short distances. No floatation device
will be used.

beginner strokes. Children will learn to fully submerge underwater, increase
breath control, glide on front, float on front/back with/without support,

Level 3: Stroke Development
To enter, children must be able to swim independently on their front/back

Children will be focusing on front/back crawl. This class will also feature
introduction to treading water, diving, and elementary backstroke.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement

Cohasset Recreation
Program
Please be sure to let us
know if your child is attending the Cohasset Recreation Program. The Rec
Director will also need a note that your child is signed up for swim lessons
stating the session, class level and time. Rec will walk swim lesson
participants to C.S.C. for Level 1-4 classes that run from 9:30 - 12:00. The
earliest class your child(ren) can be signed up for is 9:30AM. Campers will not
be walked to the Swim Center until then. If you drop your child off for a
9:00AM swim lesson, you will also have to provide transportation to the
Recreation Program at the end of this class. Details must be put in writing
by the parent and given to the Director of the Rec Camp. The last class you may
sign up for is 11:30AM.
Additional REC Information:
SWIM LESSONS: Notice to
Parents of Swim Lesson participants.
We are not able to walk children to swim lessons on the 1st day of Playground,
Monday, June 23rd.
Starting Tuesday, June 24th, and beginning with the 9:30 AM swim lesson, we will
walk your child to the Cohasset Swim Center and back to Playground after the
conclusion of the lesson. We’ll be able to do this during the period of our 7
week Summer Playground Program, concluding on Friday, August 8th.
While we’ll obtain a swim roster from the Swim Center prior to the start of the
Monday lesson scheduled for each session, it’s also required that you send in a
note to your counselor on the first day of each new swim lesson session.
However, if your child has a swim lesson that starts prior to 9:30 AM each day,
you will need to provide both the transportation to the Swim Center as well as
to the Playground Program at the conclusion of the early morning lesson.
Should any conflict occur where your child does not wish to take the lesson on
any given day, please send in a note stating that your child will not be
attending that day’s swim lesson.
Cohasset Sailing Club:
Level 5 & Level 6
Do you have scheduling conflicts for Level 5 and Level 6 swimmers who are
also taking Cohasset Sailing Club lessons? Many parents have expressed
that they would like their children to continue with Level 5 and Level 6 to work
towards becoming strong, confident swimmers and be water safety prepared.
Here is how the scheduling works: Classes run for 45 minutes. Level 5 runs from
8:45-9:30 A.M. and the Level 6 runs from 8-8:45 A.M.
The Cohasset Sailing Club has two “Sailor” classes for beginners, there is a
“Blue Team” and a “White Team.” The “Blue Team” runs Monday, Wednesday and
Friday, from 8-10 A.M. and the swimmers on the swim team are placed in the “Blue
Team” because of the 10 & under and the 12 & under swim team practices schedule
conflicts. The “White Team” runs Tuesday and Thursday, from 8-10 A.M. and
Wednesday’s 10-12 noon.
Cohasset Swim Center is offering “Sailors on the White Team” a Monday, Wednesday
and Friday Level 5 class at 8:45-9:30 and a Level 6 class from 8:00-8:45 A.M.
The instructor will focus on each individual’s skills and needs, working with
them and track their progress.
We are hoping students will sign-up for two back to back sessions to maximize
the results. The charge is $35.00 per session for members of the Swim Center
($5.80 per class).
